Frequently asked questions

What tests are included in the initial ophthalmology exam?
Visual acuity check, autorefractometry, intraocular pressure measurement, fundus exam. If needed, additional diagnostics with slit lamp or OCT.
Can cataract surgery be done for free?
Yes, with an electronic referral from your family doctor, the consultation and some diagnostics are covered by NHSU. Cataract surgery is at the patient's expense; cost depends on the type of implanted lens.
Is there a pediatric ophthalmologist?
Yes. Our ophthalmologist specializes in pediatric ophthalmology: strabismus, amblyopia, nasolacrimal duct probing, glasses fitting for children. Free with e-referral.
What is blepharoplasty and do you perform it?
Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that removes drooping and under-eye bags. Yes, we perform upper and lower blepharoplasty. The procedure is outpatient, under local anesthesia, and takes 40–60 minutes.
How often should I have my vision checked?
Adults should check once a year, children twice a year. After 40, monitoring intraocular pressure is especially important for early glaucoma detection.
